§ 13-6. Smoking.

  • (a)

    Definition. Smoking means the possession or carrying of a lighted cigar, cigarette, pipe, or other lighted tobacco device or equipment in addition to the inhalation and exhalation of smoke by a person from any form of lighted tobacco.

    (b)

    Parish buildings no smoking areas. All parish buildings operated and maintained by the parish council are hereby designated as "no smoking" areas except for those portions of buildings specifically designated as smoking areas. The building superintendent shall designate an area of each building where smoking shall be permitted and shall so indicate by appropriate signs.

    (c)

    Posted notices. Appropriate notices of the prohibition against smoking shall be placed.

    (d)

    Prevention where prohibited. Persons in charge of the parish buildings shall make reasonable efforts to prevent smoking where prohibited.

    (e)

    Violators summoned. Whoever shall refuse to obey the no smoking requirement in the parish buildings shall be summoned by appropriate law enforcement personnel to appear in a court of competent jurisdiction.

    (f)

    Penalty for violation of section. Violation of this section shall be punishable by a fine of not more than $150.00 plus court costs.
