§ 4-9. Vicious animals.

  • (a)

    Fierce, dangerous or vicious animals shall be confined within a building or enclosure by their owners. Confinement shall be in such a manner that the animal cannot come in contact with any person or other animal except under supervised conditions. All such animals, including but not limited to guard or K-9 dogs, must be under direct manual control, tethered on a leash or muzzled when not confined as required above.

    (b)

    The animal control officer shall destroy any wild or vicious dog or other animal found in violation of this section and which cannot be safely taken up or impounded, but it shall be unlawful for any other person to kill any dog or other animal by shooting or poisoning at any place other than the animal shelter, provided that in cases of bona fide emergency any person may take such measures as may be necessary for protection of person and property.
