§ 16-33. Same—Pertaining to streams.

  • The specifications which apply in this article, pertaining to streams, shall be as follows:

    (1)

    Oil pipeline, gas pipeline, water pipeline, cable, or communication line:

    a.

    The design of oil, gas, and water pipelines used in the structure shall be equal to the latest specifications of the American Gas Association, the American Water Works Association, or the American Society for Testing Materials, as the case may be.

    b.

    Power cables, telephone cables, telegraph cables, and control cables used in the structure shall be manufactured in accordance with the requirements of the National Electrical Code standards. Where the voltage in cables shall be 110 volts or greater, a suitable danger sign shall be installed.

    (2)

    Paralleling the right-of-way: The location of all structures paralleling the right-of-way shall be determined by the parish engineer at the time the permit is issued.

    (3)

    Crossing the stream or its right-of-way:

    a.

    All structures crossing the stream or its right-of-way shall have an earth cover of not less than 36 inches, as indicated on the plans or as directed by the parish engineer.

    b.

    Where the depth of the stream D as indicated on the plans is five feet or greater, a suitable bulkhead shall be erected. The applicant is required to furnish maps and details of the proposed work to the parish engineer for his approval at the time the permit is issued.

    c.

    Where the depth of the stream D, as indicated on the plans, is less than five feet, each side of the open trench is to be sand or earth bagged or placement of clam shells and riprap (broken stones) shall be made to the satisfaction of the parish engineer.
